The question
The owners had already replaced their roof and windows and wanted to get rid of their old gas boiler. Their question: could it be done with the existing radiators, without tearing up the floors?
Our approach
A heat loss calculation showed that, with the new insulation, the house could manage with a lower water temperature. We replaced three undersized radiators with low-temperature radiators and installed an 8 kW air-to-water heat pump with a domestic hot water cylinder. The outdoor unit sits on the flat roof of the rear extension, out of sight and far enough from the neighbours.
The result
The house has been completely gas-free since the winter. The installation took three working days, and the subsidy was claimed through Mijn VerbouwPremie.
